Why Woven

Our History

Whitney first moved to La Grange, Texas in the spring of 2017. She was eager to find a group of women to connect with but kept coming up dry. In a small town of roughly 4,600 people, she sensed a collective hunger for deeper relationships and a desire to study God’s Word. What started as a Bible study to gather a handful of women together quickly grew to a weekly operation with over 40 women and plenty of kids in childcare.

Around that time, Whitney began to pray about the possibility of working in conjunction with local churches to minister to the women of the community. It wasn’t until 8 months later when her pastor approached her and asked her to consider serving as a women’s ministry missionary that she sensed God confirming that original calling. Because of this, Woven exists to serve the women of La Grange as well as the surrounding areas.

Since then, Whitney has been able to create an organization called Woven. The non-profit has a board of directors that meets quarterly as well as a local team of leaders who meet monthly to grow deeper, pray together, and seek wisdom for the direction of the ministry.

While many of the regular gatherings take place within the local church, Woven is outside any particular congregation and seeks to engage all women of the community. Through ongoing fundraising, Woven is able to offer their programs free or at a subsidized cost to encourage wide participation.

Through the unique challenges of the last couple years, Woven has continued to be a pillar in the community. While the world is divided both in and out of the church, Woven offers a picture of something different. We seek to live out the passage where Jesus tells his followers, “by this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

From the start, I noticed how organized the Woven events have been and as a newcomer that made me very comfortable. The Woven volunteers have been accommodating and ready to help with anything. Just recently, I had a Woven Team Member reach out with a handwritten note with encouragement and support. You can’t get any better than that! Thank you to the entire Woven Team.

Woven has not only given me tools and confidence to learn and understand God’s Word but more importantly, it has given me a community of women to support and guide me as I walk through life.

Women are the backbone of communities. When you encourage, sharpen, and strengthen women, you impact the children, the husbands, the parents, the neighbors, the co-workers. Woven continues to see the ripple effect and the need is greater now more than ever as women in particular often spin multiple plates and carry a heavy load.

One unique dynamic of this ministry is the aspect of bringing in women from a variety of churches as well as unchurched backgrounds. Because of this, one of the central tenets of the ministry is to posture ourselves in humility, where we can learn from one another. Woven seeks to come around the Word of God and the person of Jesus Christ while developing meaningful relationships.
